24th World Scout Jamboree Tent Repair

Official published information sent to our contingent (Boy Scouts of America) Coleman® Sundome® 6-Person Dome Tent. Technical Details Tent Size: 3.1m x 3.1m (10′ x 10′) Weight: 7.36kg (16.2lbs) Dimensions (packed) : 67.3cm x 20.3cm x 20.3cm (2.2’ x 8” x 8”) The labeling on the tent however notes 9.6′ x 9′ (292 cm x 274 cm) (see closeup picture below)

Tent Poles – fiberglass with steel connectors with a shock cord strung down each tube. Two support the tent and one is used on the rainfly as an entry awning.

Actual measurements I made

Main tent poles: Fiberglass 11 mm diameter, 64.5 mm per section (fiberglass pole plus metal ferrule/connector). Assembled length = 5.74 meters (226 inches)

Awning support poles: 6.5 mm diameter, Assembled length = 1.64 meters (64.5 inches)

Tent stakes: 12

Tent stake rings with support pole connector (4 total)

Buyer Research / Beware Coleman replacement parts don’t seem to include the pole diameter on many of their listings. This is very important for the poles to fit into the metal ferrule / connectors. I would like to recommend the manufacturer but I could not find any on their site for replacement parts.

Parts substitutions I found I was successful in adapting the Eureka! fiberglass shock cord pole repair and replacement kit. The 11 mm size comes with four 27.75 inch (70.5 cm) sections that can be cut down to fit. The Eureka link is https://eurekacamping.johnsonoutdoors.com/accessories/repair-kits-poles/11mm-fiberglass-tent-pole-repairreplacement-kit The USA amazon site is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YZ82F6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The smaller 6.5 mm fiberglass pole was more difficult to find replacement parts. One section of this pole developed a split along the length of the fiberglass. We wrapped it with solid core wire then duct-taped it to reinforce it and secure it. If you need a replacement tent stake ring try searching for that term “tent pin and ring” or “tent ring with pins”
